A Book Lover's Bridal Shower

My best friend is getting married [insert excited girl screams here]! I have known Sam since 6th grade and we have been planning our weddings ever since we met. Our plans have changed a bit since 6th grade. We have nixed the idea of a horse and carriage and opted for more realistic expectations. Now that we are older (with budgets), we stick with mostly DIY decor. For her bridal shower, we wanted to evoke thoughts of a storybook love. Sam is a kindergarten teacher and her fiance does his best to be a storybook-worthy prince charming.

For the backdrop, I made an ombre sheet out of painted book pages and hung it on kraft paper. We added some tassels to make the piece more festive. The backdrop was perfect for opening presents and taking pictures in front of. It's nice to have a backdrop for your shower venue to really transform the space, especially if it is at home or a restaurant with decor you don't want showing up in the photos.

The candy table served as party favors for the shower. Guests could fill cute little bags with some sweets to take home with them. One of the bridesmaids made the cupcake dress using red velvet cupcakes and piped icing. I made the love is sweet sign using watercolor and acrylic paint.

For the food, the bridesmaids picked all of her favorite foods to be catered by a local restaurant. I made the table runner by taping antique book pages together...very simple! I created the pink sign using watercolor and gold calligraphy ink.

My favorite game we played at the shower was a "Newlywed" type game. Bridesmaids recorded Jon answering questions about his relationship with Sam, and let her also answer the question before playing his answer. Some of the questions were: "what is the best/worst meal Sam ever made you" or "who is her celebrity crush," and "what is the last thing she does before going to bed?"

Another cute game we played is "Guess the Celebrity Wedding Dress." Guests match the celebrity to the dress they wore on their wedding day. Next up, it was time to open presents! That is the best part, right?
